Annual sweeping will remove spiders’ webs that can prevent the escape of smoke and poisonous carbon monoxide gases from flues. Gas flues in particular, whilst they should not produce soot, can become blocked by the build up of spiders’ webs. Even if you have a cowl on the top to stop the birds nesting in your gas flue – another potential blockage and danger – spiders can still do their work.
